2nd annual Fernie Enduro on August 23rd

Fernie will once again be host to one of Canada’s top Enduro races on August 23rd, 2014. It will be a pure Enduro with three big descents totalling over 6000 ft of vertical descent.

Enduro racing is the latest form of mountain bike racing, it all began in Europe and has spread to North America. Continuing from the success in 2013, the 2014 Fernie Enduro will take enduro racing to the next level with superior timing, Enduro results only, and epic downhills. Last years event saw Fernie riders in many top spots, with the top local result being Lucie Richer placing the fasted women’s time overall. Luke Nelson placed 5th in mens’ open and Marty Kafke 3rd in mens’ 40+.

Enduro racing is not a downhill race, neither is it a cross country race, its a mix of the two, with the added social aspect of a Grand Fondo—road ridings popular social trend. You’ll need to have riding skills and fitness for this event, the timed sections are downhill, but can also have short climbs and flat sections. After each stage there is a non-timed section to get you to your next stage and this involves riding uphill for some distance and vary on the route and stage. In Fernie the climbs reflect the downhills—long and steep!

In an Enduro you ride with your friends to the timed downhill sections and bomb the descent as fast your skill allows, regroup and continue to the next descent. A coffee and snack in-between the descents is a reality.

Fernie’s one day event will feature descents on three of Fernie’s best downhills. With an unprecedented amount of descending, including challenging and technical sections, this course will rank among Enduro’s top events.
The event is locally organized by seasoned veterans with proceeds supporting local trail initiatives by the Fernie Trails Alliance.
