06/09/2006 – A new downhill has been carved into steep mountain terrain South of Fernie alongside Burton Creek, just outside of Elko. The trail is best described as “steep and gnarly” and has produced many large smiles for those descending the trail. All of the trail is ride-able however some sections are very technical and challenging.
Description: Begins with a steep decent with mandatory speed berms and a natural rock launch dropping to Burton Creek. From this point the trail follows the creek. Windy single-track drops beside the many water falls and rock outcrops. Technical and steep mid-section. Gap the creek and roll to your vehicle.
Directions: Take the Burton Lake exit on the right past the Hilltop and just before the ice-cream stand in Elko. Cross the train tracks and 50 meters before the new 5-acre lot subdivision turn right and follow the hydro-line to the creek crossing. The trail end is on the right. Continue to climb, easy for a good vehicle, to the hand glider launch – watch for single track on right just as road begins to descend. It’s a very easy shuttle.
Suggestion: A DH bike and lots or armour!
