Twoonie Races Underway!

07/05/2005 – The first in the series of six Twoonie Races scheduled for the summer season went off in a big way last Monday night.  Twenty-Four racers gathered at the start of the Deadfall Trail at 7:00pm, a light rain reminded us that we were lucky to have relatively dry trail considering the season. Racers climbed up and through the clear-cut, then down to the power line, finishing to the cheers of the other riders and a chance to enjoy the lactic burn and adrenalin rush. The post race celebration at The Pub offered at chance to talk trash and make arrangements for rides through the week. The spirit of the event was super positive; folks were out to beat their buddies in an informal race, but having a good time with other riders who love a reason to get together and on bikes was the overall objective.

So what the heck is a Twoonie Race…? Two bucks gets you a number plate and a chance to win the pot in either the Women’s or Men’s category. Riders start at one minute intervals and crank it out to the finish. Beer and nachos and race results are had at The Pub afterwards. Six races have been organized by The Guide’s Hut crew on a different trail each Monday evening till August 1st. In addition to riding till your lungs burn, having a chance to meet new riding partners, and good laughs and sore legs, you’ll  get a Giv’er Shirt Works Twoonie Series T-Shirt for riding four out of six events, good times!

Take note of the race dates and locations below, we have an event for everyone, to have the most fun; come out to all six. Each trail is being maintained before and after the events by the organizers. Meet at the start zone at 7:00pm, Twoonie in hand, ready to roll.
